In My Best Friend’s Wedding starring Julia Roberts, a conversation revealing that it’s a man’s job to pursue the woman in a dating relationship takes place between Julianne (Roberts) and her friend George (Rupert Everett) as Julianne is driving a bread van down Michigan Avenue in pursuit of her best friend whom she decides she loves the day he decides to marry someone else:
“Michael’s chasing Kimmy?” (George)
“Yes!” (Julianne)
“You’re Chasing Michael?”(George)
“Yes!” (Julianne)
“Who is chasing you? Nobody. There’s your answer.” (George)
But this post isn’t about a man pursing a woman in a dating relationship.
It’s about God pursuing you.
As moms, we do a lot of chasing, pursuing, carrying, lifting and supporting. I am sure you have flopped down on the couch many times and sighed, “I wish someone would carry me!” (to the spa for a massage, right?!) And for single moms, oh just to have someone to share in the load. And, if you are dating, maybe your desire is for someone to pursue you. I hope that if you are in a dating season, that God will deliver His very best to you…your own Dermot Mulroney!
Know moms, that today, whatever or whomever you are chasing, there is someone who DOES carry your burdens and who carries you as well. As you chase, as you run, as you sustain your little ones and your responsibilities (at times) like a crazy woman driving a bread van down a city street, God sustains you. Let yourself be carried today and let God pursue you. He wants to give you rest. He wants to give you freedom from your burdens. Past mistakes. Salvation. He wants to give you joy. Peace. Comfort. He is the true sustainer and lifter of our heads. He is available and doesn’t need chasing nor pursing. He is at your side, pursuing you and you don’t have to turn cartwheels to get His attention.
Nor drive bread vans.
He is the bread.
Your sustenance.
“I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” Isaiah 46:4

He most certainly is the lifter of our heads. We don’t have to panic nor be frantic….hopefully, others can see this truth as well as He is in control of all the details….and in control of all the Julias, Kimmies, Michaels, those we love, and of course, us!

Oh you are SO being carried, Tamara! Isn’t it nice to know we are not alone in our feelings and in our challenges? Not only do all of us as moms get it and walk this path together, but God gets it too and He knows all that we are chasing and the things that are chasing us! (We really do do a lot of chasing in our roles, don’t we?) So encouraged to know that you know He IS carrying you…it doesn’t mean our lives won’t have fast-paced pursuits at times, but what it does mean is that we have a God who is right there with us, in the bread van, in the chase. If He’s not in the driver’s seat at that exact moment b/c we grabbed the wheel, then He’s in the passenger seat ready to take over! Blessings to you this week!

It’s a fun movie, huh, Leah? And we all really have loads, don’t we? (Sometimes beyond the laundry!) None of us are immune and sometimes it’s refreshing to know that our problems don’t take us to the restroom of a train station or end in some random way. Our lives are not arbitrary, they are under God’s sovereign control…I have to remember as you do where to turn when it comes to carrying those great loads. Thankfully, we have God’s word to remind us that He not only carries them but wants to. How cool and awesome is that???!!! Thanks for reading!
