Hi. Needed unbiased opinion. Im in a boot cause of injury on my foot. Been prescribed a scooter. Were supposed to leave for Cabo this Sunday.I truly don’t know how I can make this trip with my pain and my good leg I’ve had 3 knee surgeries. Getting thru 2 airports too. I haven’t used the scooter yet. I so want to go and not disappoint anyone. But truly don’t want to ruin it for others cause I’m so limited. I feel its just gonna be too much and and as I said I’m in alit of pain. Would you skip the trip?? Everyone is still going which I’m glad.
momcafe says
Oh Tammie, this is such a hard situation for you! I absolutely understand the pain and limitations and how you can’t even imagine traveling right now. It does seem like too much for your condition. But I’m going to give you a frustrating answer. 🙂
Whatever decision you make will be the RIGHT decision for you. If you are just too afraid and worried that this trip would be impossible with all you’re going through-then stay back and even more importantly, be at peace with your decision. YOU know yourself better than anyone else. Trust your gut on this. I can’t imagine anyone arguing with you on your decision to be safe and take care of yourself instead.
On the OTHER HAND- (See? I told you I would frustrate you!) If you can manage the travel with your friends or family’s help and the use of that miraculous scooter, and if your doctor permits you to go and you have pain meds and everything else you need to take care of YOU and your injury… This actually might be wonderful timing! If you can scoot yourself to the poolside or beach or sit on tours or scoot around shops and enjoy the beauty and warmth and fun of Cabo with the people you love… It just might be the very best thing for you to do. I know it’s scary even imagining getting through two airports and all the unknowns and “what if”s with the trip- BUT I’ve always found once I’m in that terrifying situation, it actually isn’t so terrible after all. There is wonderful handicap assistance these days, so I predict the airline and airport will take good care of your needs. Rather than staying home and solely focusing on your injury, CABO would be the very best distraction from your pain!
So there ya go…
Stay home and take care of you in the comfort of your safe and secure surroundings so you can heal. This is the easier choice and probably the wisest too.
OR
Take a risk and dare to go, seeing a new and beautiful place with people you love- while still being cared for and careful- while you’re healing. It might be the best experience of your life- and I’d hate for you to miss out on that.
Please let me know what you decide when you can. I KNOW your choice will be the perfect choice for you.

I’m healing after a fall on the ice in January. I’m having stinging pains ~ it feels like I’m being jabbed with something sharp. I’m all alone & my hubby is in a memory care facility. It’s really been bothering since physical therapy. All I feel like doing is cry! I need a hug!

momcafe says
Oh, dear Joan, I wish I could hug you!! Please feel my virtual arms wrapped around you now! You poor thing. I hate that you are in so much pain! What does your PT say about your pain? That just doesn’t sound right. Please call your doctor and demand the care you need, so you can heal and fully recover. Did you break anything? Tear any ligaments or tendons? He needs to take a closer look and see what is causing this pain.
I’m so sorry you are alone. My heart breaks for you. I can only imagine how much you are missing your hubby now. Please stay strong and keep fighting through this difficult recovery- and have the courage to advocate for yourself. And yes, crying is SO needed. I understand. Do you have any friends who can be a support for you? Oh, how I’m praying so. Please reach out to them so you don’t feel so alone. You need caring people to come alongside you right now. I hope and pray your pain dissipates and you start feeling hopeful. Please keep me updated, as you can.

I am 4 months post op ankle surgery and found your article from 2015 about 20 things to know. Thank you so much for making me laugh. I have been so down about not being able to walk on these beautiful autumn days we are having here in CA. My doctors say it takes time but I feel like I’ve put in enough time with this already! Hope all is well now with you and thanks again for the encouragement.
Ps I took off a whole corner rack display at Target with the motorized cart. I laughed heartily❤️

Oh, Joan, I’m SO glad you found my blog and it helped encourage you! I remember the hardest thing was missing my walks! I promise that someday you WILL be able to have them back in your life again. And girl, I am laughing so hard about you taking out the whole corner rack display at Target! You are my PEOPLE! LOL
Hang in there, new friend. Healing ALWAYS takes more time than we think. It was a full year before I was fully recovered. Try to get outside as much as possible to enjoy the weather, despite not being able to walk in it. And be patient with yourself, be kind and gracious and tender with your limitations. In time, you WILL be able to do all you want to do. I promise. XOXO

Hi there! I came across your article while searching on Pinterest for things to do while recovering from surgery. I noticed the last comment is from four years ago. Are you still active?
momcafe says
Hi there! Yes, my blog is still here and I’m still around! I am writing for other sites now so I’ve pretty much neglected my poor blog. I still receive lots of messages and emails from those particular posts and love hearing from so many women who read them and appreciated them!
I’m guessing you might be recovering from an injury or surgery. Just let me know if I can do anything for you and if you aren’t able to purchase my book, I’d be happy to send you a free copy. Just let me know your address and I’ll ship it off to you!
Hugs,
Christine

Hi Wendy!
I’m thrilled you would like to use that particular piece for your Christmas Pageant. I used it with my teen ministry’s Christmas presentation, having each person share who they identify with and why. I love it and I’m so honored you do too.
You absolutely have my permission to use it with your Sunday school. I will pray that it blesses both the kids and those who are in the audience! If you happen to record it, I would love to see what you did! You can send the video to Chris@themomcafe.com.
Thanks so much for reaching out, Wendy!
God bless you and your ministry!

Hey this is Cheryl, I have been struggling with a whole lot at this point. Being in school and going through my mom leaving my dad is painful and I have been going to the Lord but I feel like I’m not saying the right words.
momcafe says
Hi Cheryl! I’m so sorry you’ve been struggling and I’m heartbroken to hear about your mom leaving your dad. That must be so hard for you!! It sounds like you have been going through a tough season in your life and I want you to know that God hears your prayers. There are no “right” words you need to say. God knows your needs and your hurting heart no matter what you pray. Sometimes it can feel like he’s not listening or helping you, but I promise he IS in this with you although you may not feel he is right now. Keep going to him and trusting that he loves you and is going to work all these things out for his purpose and plan for your life. There were SO many times I felt the way you do right now and I look back on those desperate prayers and how God used every difficult experience to grow me into who I am today. I promise you that in time, you will see the evidence of his presence and promises to love and care for you in ways only he can.
I also hope you have some trusted friends you can talk to or any other professional counselors you might be willing to see. Getting support and guidance when we go through hard things is the most important way to take care of ourselves.
I will be praying for you, dear one. Praying that God nourishes you with his love and strengthens you as you continue to walk through this storm with him. Hold on to the hope that you will get through this and that God is preparing you for a future that is beautiful and fulfilling.

Hi. I was so moved by your article and sad to hear about your son’s knee injury. My 17 year old son’s aspirations ended with a major patella fracture. We’ve now been through two surgeries. Over the last little while, he has found the strength to connect with and support other teenage athletes who lost their sport. He actually started a podcast to share stories of children who have found the strength to recover and move forward with their lives following a sports injury. Maybe you and
/or your son could be one of his first few guests?
momcafe says
Oh, Ashley, I’m so sorry to hear about your son’s injuries! It’s so heartbreaking and hard to see our boys go through such suffering and face life-changing experiences. I really appreciate you reaching out and I’m glad you found my article about my son’s injuries as well. Sadly, after nine months of painful rehab, three weeks back on the field, he tore is ACL again. He had his second surgery in March and is out of all competitive sports for good. SO sad that he not only has had to deal with the painful rehab once again, but that he also has to eliminate one of his greatest loves and a huge part of his identity. As difficult as it’s been for him, I’m so proud of his strength and perseverance and mostly his ability to adapt and explore other interests. Although his high school sports experience has been taken from him, I believe he’s learning one of life’s greatest lessons that will surely help him face hardships and adversity as an adult. He’s proven to himself that he is resilient and has the capability to endure hard things and I’m so grateful for that.
I’ll talk to my son about the podcast and reach out to you if he’s interested! You must be SO PROUD of your son for taking his painful experience and giving it purpose to support other teen athletes who are going through the same challenges. What an inspiring story!!
