Things That Make You Go NO!

October 2, 2013 By momcafe 48 Comments

Things That Make You Go NO!I’m singing that song in my head, but I have NO idea where it came from- anyone?  Perhaps my older peeps know?  I’m too lazy to research it, so trust me when I say there is a song that sings “Things that make you go hmm…”  Anyhoo- I changed the words around to fit my life.  Perhaps everyone’s, right?  We all have those moments.  Life has a way of giving us those crazy times that call for a “NO!!!”   Something goes very wrong in our pleasant and peaceful places, where we completely freak out in total surprise.  Things we don’t plan for or hope for or want to happen- but they do.  Some funny, and some not so funny.  Well I am going to share my top five “things that make you go NO!!” here, and feel free to join in on the fun!  If you have a list to share, let me know and I would LOVE to see them!! Wouldn’t this be a fun link up idea?  Hmm…

1.      This first one needs a ‘back-story’.   For those who read my posts, I recently wrote about how lovely life is and I encouraged you to embrace the moments that matter.   I shared how my fearless daughter did a dangerous dive-(The inward dive)and did it well!  Would you believe the NEXT day she went for it again, and I took a deep breath and relinquished my fear, while embracing my words and the moment once again.  Here’s where things didn’t go as well:

SHE LANDED HEAD FIRST ON THE BOARD!!!!!  My greatest fear CAME TRUE!!!  Oh you better believe I screamed “NO!!!”

Funny though, as I was holding her and we were both crying I rocked her and said “I know honey, I know… you can cry, I bet you are so scared!”  To which she replied, “I’m crying because I know you’ll never let me do that dive again, mommy!!”

You bet I won’t child!

2.      I was having a wonderful evening with my neighbors out on her back porch, laughing and yes, there may have been some wine consumption involved!  As I was doing some sort of “happy dance” and they cheered me on- (not uncommon with or without the wine) my neighbor’s dogs suddenly got all riled up and attacked me!!!  One bit DEEP through my skin on my leg and you bet I screamed “NO!!!!!

What a buzz kill, if there ever was one.

3.      On Sunday night, after a very busy weekend- I remembered about the notification that my son’s reading and math logs for the month were due the NEXT day…  (ready for it?)  THEY WERE BLANK!!!!  I’m not even sure you can categorize that as a mom fail- I mean an ENTIRE month completely neglected!  Well, let me ‘save face’ here- I did notice there were two entries on September 1st and 2nd!  We spent the next hour looking at the calendar and “guessing when he read”, then I wrote a note on the math log that simply said “Oops!”  You can bet this teacher just adores me…

I woke up the next morning to my sweet, hard-working (and probably terrified) boy reading frantically on the couch with piles of books to add last minute to his reading log!

4.      I received my Kohl’s Card bill and was charged A $25.00 LATE FEE!!!!!!!  “NOOOOOOOO!!”  Enough said.

5.     And lastly, I finally found the culprit that caused the stench that permeated my ‘Carter Cruiser’ for weeks!!!  (Seriously, it was so bad, we had to keep the windows down all the time.)    I was reaching down on the passenger side floor looking for something, and came up with… ready for it?

A HALF EATEN PEACH that had been rotting in my car for weeks!!!  I ain’t never smelled anything like it.  The goop had thankfully molded on a plastic bag, and I literally flew out of my car screaming “NO!!!!!!!!”

And there you have it.  The top five things that made me go “NO!”

What things made you go “NO!”????  Oh, please share!!!

The missing homework on a Sunday night is always a big “no” inducer for me. The highway use tax they charge down here when you register a vehicle? HUGE no! $98.00 use tax? I mean what the what? I thought New Jersey had the market cornered on outrageous taxes but apparently not! Bad pizza – triple no. Quadruple that if I’m eating that pizza on my neighbor’s back porch and get bitten by her dog. Just saying.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Have you EVER found a BLANK monthly log? I have a good feeling you keep up a heck of a lot better than I do, my friend!! Cade is SO the second child. I don’t know how you moms even remember you have a third child, I can hardly keep up with my second. (If I really tried, I probably could do better…)

Pizza- lets hope this latest one ‘sticks’ around and is eliminated on your “NO!” list!!!

Taxes that high? What the WHAT??? Good Lord, I hope they serve good coffee (or pizza) for FREE somewhere on those highways. 😉

I have reserved a spot for my youngest at pre-school for next year specifically b/c of the teacher who teaches there. She was my older son’s teacher and is THE BEST pre-school teacher. I found out today that she and her boss have parted ways and she is no longer teaching at that school. NOOOOOOOOOO. I don’t even care that I’m going to lose my deposit if we don’t go there. I don’t want to lose that teacher!

These were some great little vignettes. The one that hit home for me was the late fee. I don’t know what is wrong with me (blogging) but I have been doing that a lot these days, to the point where I can’t even call and say, “I have never done this before, can you give me a break just this once?” Because their answer would be, “Ma’am, our records say you just did.” Sigh.

I know I KNOW!!! (blogging) I have been so distracted and frantically busy (blogging) that I miss things that are seriously ridiculously obvious. I need to focus better, balance better and prioritize better… (Blogging!!!) 😉

My biggest NO! moment this week – we had to have our hot water heater replaced and let’s just say it wasn’t cheap. When the repair guy said, “iIt’s over 20 years old and is just going to continue having problems. It’s best if you just go ahead and replace the whole thing.” I definitely thought “NOOOOOOOOO!”

The fact that my older child has taken to sleepwalking and night terrors resulting in me having to pause my TiVo and go into her room EVERY SINGLE NIGHT for 2 weeks. I just want to sleep in my own bed!! Your list is perfect. The peach is SO something that would happen to me!-Ashley

Bless that sweetie’s heart. Cade just started to end the night terror legacy that lasted his ENTIRE life of seven years. I was horrible and definitely worthy of “NO!!!!!” every stinkin’ night.

      GOOD LUCK.

This is too funny Chris. That homework one was pretty bad…poor baby…it deserved an Oops. The dog bite deserved an Ouch too…so sorry.

I have a loong list of reasons I say No. Sometimes it comes as easy as…at the end of a tired, hectic day and I hear “Mommy can I…” NOOOOO! what ever it is. NO! Sad but true

ZzzzzzzzIP IT!!” Then I do that scaredy cat thing where I shoot a look really exaggerated with my eyebrows raised and my head cocked like ‘ya wanna mess with ME??’, and they laugh but know that I MEAN BUSINESS! 😉

The “NO!” moments come in constant waves in this house, oh yes oh yes oh yes! 😉

Oh dear! I’m so glad it was just a peach. I know it was horrible, but I had fears of deceased animals..or something.
What makes me go “Nooooo!”? Well, this is way TMI, but Des..being a boy… sometimes his hand goes automatically downward when his diaper is removed. Well if it’s a dirty diaper and his hand starts going in that direction, I have screamed “Nooo!” Poor kid is going to be traumatized from diaper changes.

Are you okay after your dog bite? I got bit… oh, geez, it’s been like 12 year now. And I still get a little hesitant around dogs.

Things that make me go NO: homework. Way too much homework.

What a list! I can relate to the reading list being due and nothing on it. I have had similar experiences with money due for a school event or something I’m supposed to send in. In fact, my 6 year old has school pictures today. I just realized it last night and it was too late to get his hair cut. That’s gonna be a great pic! LOL. Visiting from DYWW at Prowess and Pearls. Happy to connect with you, Chris.

It’s a wonder I even “like” dogs, let alone love them(which I do). 🙂 I feel you on the “accidents and mishaps” with kids! I can only imagine how helpless you felt, ONLY to find out -more often than NOT- that we end up being more injured than they are! Kids…you gotta love em’! Oh, these days that would be stalking the houses for sale, doing the drive by’s and the research, going for a walk through, deciding that night to put an offer in knowing we have 5 days before the bank chooses a buyer from all the offers because that’s what they said they’d do, calling the realtor first thing in the morning and then getting a call back saying that the bank already chose someone the day before, even tho that wasn’t the deal. . . NOOOOOOO!

It worked out, though. We have found something better, we think. We’ll see if we say yes or NOOOOO this time. 🙂
