Those “unsung” Heroes…

August 31, 2011 By momcafe 6 Comments

Do you have a certain someone or even one or two people in your life who seem to grace you with a special light that extends far beyond what you believe to be humanly possible?  Do you encounter that person on a regular basis and realize day after day, that he or she is truly one of those treasures you are so grateful to have in your life?  That person may be a loving nurse, a helpful volunteer or even a dear friend.  Well, every so often I come across one of those gems…  someone who goes above and beyond their call of duty.  Someone who seems to effortlessly take life by the hand and walk through it illuminating others as they go…They offer you only the best of what he or she can offer every single minute of the day. It seems so easy to them.  It comes so naturally.  It is a gift.  They are a gift.  And they hardly even know it.  They are humble and hardly realize the impact they have on others….they may hear it, they may see it, but they give because they love to, not for any reward other than pure joy from giving…

I get the privilege of encountering such a person every day when I go to my gym.  She never stops amazing me with all she does to touch the lives of the children that cross her path.  She works in the daycare at my gym and for years I have been dropping off my kids to be blessed by all she does and all she gives.  Her energy, her wisdom, and her endless creativity and efforts give each child that enters her “world” an experience full of love and fun and such a variety of activities groomed to make even the most stubborn child smile.   Although her hours are long, and her pay can’t be much, she treats her job as her calling and it shows.  I hear her laughing hard and loud, playing with every child and completing crafts that even the savviest caretaker could not endure!   When the kids aren’t there, she is busy cutting more paper and setting up more activities or cleaning each and every toy…caring and preparing her little precious world for our little precious children.  My gym dues are cheap, compared to what I get in return.  Because of this one woman, I get a break and best of all…  my children get HER!!!

If you know someone who has an impact on your life and touches you deeply, don’t you just feel so blessed??!  It’s these unsung heroes that truly make the world go round….in a beautiful fulfilling and uniquely wonderful way.  There’s heroes everywhere, but it’s those ordinary people that glow with that light….and make our life just a little bit brighter, and a whole lot easier.  Make sure you hug your hero today, would you?

My friend Judy. . .showed me how to truly live a faith-filled life of love and compassion. I still can hear her singing, “I’m busy doing nothing, working the whole day through. Trying to find lots of things not to do. I’m busy going nowhere, Isn’t it such a crime. I’d like to be unhappy, but I never do have the time.”
