I am going to wrap up this precious Holy Week by sharing what I bought my kids for Easter. I have been longing to give my kids their own bible. They are finally at an age where they are fairly able to read and understand its content, and I wanted them to have a special hand- picked, engraved bible from us. I searched and searched through countless styles, translations, age groupings, and eventually found two of the most perfect bibles for each of my kids! I envisioned these Holy Books years from now, worn and withered pages that had been sifted through over and over again… I picture the highlights and scribble from diving deep into study through their ever-flowing seasons of life… I dream of them still holding those precious bibles when they are grown and sharing His Truth with their own children.
There is no greater tangible gift I could give them.
I wrote all about it over at 1Cor13 Parenting. If you would like to read more about this go here.
After a long busy weekend, we finally arrived home to shower off the full day starting with an all church Easter breakfast, service and then we met the kids at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm. We spent the remainder of the day out by the creek, up on a hill flying down a make shift zip line in the forest, journeying through a treasure hunt up on the hill and down through the woods. I soaked in the sight of Cassidy with grandma’s sun hat on while gardening and planting with her Aunt Char, and of course there was cooking and feasting! We got home late, and in our exhaustion, we nestled the kids in the family room to give them their gifts… They were THRILLED! Cade was so excited to have his first ‘real bible’ that he suggested they read their new bibles “right NOW together!”
Why yes my precious boy, let’s do that…
This really was the perfect gift indeed and so glad that you were able to do this for this Easter. Hugs to you Chris!! 🙂
I am thrilled with it Janine!! it was just perfect- and I have been anticipating giving them these for YEARS! 🙂
Beautiful Chris. You are an inspirational mother!
Oh thank you so much Alexa! One step at a time over here… just thankful I balance out the flaws of motherhood with the triumphs!! This one surely was a triumph!
Sounds like a wonderful Easter celebration, Chris! It sounds like you picked the perfect gift for you kids. Heading over to read your post now!
It was a beautiful and exhausting weekend, but absolutely awesome indeed! I’m thrilled with these bibles! 🙂 And so glad they love them!
A bible is The. Best. Easter. Gift. Ever!
YES YES YES!!!!! MWUAH!! 🙂
One year for Easter we gave our boys Bibles – sadly I don’t think that I set enough of an example in reading them these days.
Oh Kim- I hear ya girl. I really need to work harder at this with my kids! If I was more intentional about reading the bible, I KNOW they would be more invested… and we would ALL benefit from God’s Word!!
I really need to set something up that is like a regular schedule- I think that’s the only way. Life is so hectic- it just won’t happen if I don’t!!
Definitely the perfect gift! Loved watching Cade read the Word!
Aw! Thank you Katie!! It was precious… I love their hearts so tender for God!!
Best. Gift. Ever. And a puppy. But this is better.
I’m listening but I’m supposed to be working, but instead I’m listening. And Scarlet and her sitter are downstairs. I bet Scarlet is swooning at his reading voice!
OH you are so sweet!!! A puppy might trump this one… 😉
Lets set Scarlett and Cade up when they are a bit older. They would surely be the PERFECT couple!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
((Superb))!!! xxx
Thanks love!!! Superb indeed!! I love love love that they love their Bibles. 🙂
How sweet! I love that they were so excited about this gift. We have the Jesus Storybook which is perfect for little ones and Addison has a children’s bible that the church gives all 2nd graders…but I don’t think he’s as enthusiastic. It’s not in comic book format, soooooo
HA! My sister’s boy wanted the comic formatted bible too! I did buy it for him! My kids are really at that point where they don’t need anything but God’s Word- and in “adult-like versions”- that makes them feel all ‘grown up’. 🙂 I’ll take it, if it means they are diving deeper in their new Bibles!!!
What a perfect gift Chris. And I love that you waited until a time when they will truly appreciate them…that is honestly something they will treasure forever. Beautiful.-Ashley
Thanks Ashley! I can only pray they grasp the significance of His Word… I didn’t for YEARS!! And I honestly still need to work on ‘clinging to His Truth’ and diving into the bible more often. I love that Lisa does every morning!! That is exactly what I need to be doing…
I love that my kids are on the right track- they truly have a heart for God. Nothing gives me more joy!!
What a great gift for Easter. My preschooler just got his first Bible. We got him the Jesus Story Book Bible.
I can’t wait until the day I can buy him a full on Bible. I imagine the same sort of things, that it will be loved, marked on, and clung to.
Oh what a precious time for you with your little one! That’s where it really begins… laying that foundation and nurturing that love for the Lord in our kiddos, as they begin their budding faith journey. I saved my kids’ first bibles!! 🙂
I love this – what a perfect gift. I love the imagery of you imagining their bibles being worn and loved years from now when they’re reading them to their own children. And you’re so adorable in your video!
Thanks so much sweet friend! I was SO tired that I really could hardly keep my eyes open! And I am wearing my pjs- besides that- I do LOVE that my kids are so enamored with the Bible!! 🙂
This is a great gift idea. My kids don’t have their own yet, they probably should. I did giggle a little at the start of the video when you yawned. I do that to my kids all the time when we are reading, I thought, there’s a real momma moment.
HA!!! I LOVE that you caught that Stephanie!! It was ALL I could do to stay focused and not yawn the ENTIRE time!!! I was SO tired… not planning on taping it all. LOL
Total mother moment indeed! Notice how I keep moving back and forth to each kid? Yeah, that was me trying to stay awake. 😉
That’s an awesome gift! Especially for Easter. My daughter got her own Bible for her First Communion, and she loves reading it, even though it’s not the translation we’re used to.
Oh that is WONDERFUL Rabia!! I love that your daughter loves her bible! And yeah- translations are key- I struggled with deciding which one for my kids.
What an amazing gift for your kids! And I love that they appreciate the significance! Our kids are all baptized at age 8, and our tradition has been to give then their own scriptures then. It’s a special time:)
