Sometimes I forget summer is the sweet spot of life over here. It’s my absolute favorite season.
If you are a mom, I’m guessing you find yourself frazzled and frayed fairly often during the summer months, yes? Yeah. And if your kid is in summer sports, or both your kids are in summer sports, or all ten of your kids are in summer sports, or activities, or camps etc- it can be a crazy train that sometimes goes off the rails.
Been there done that…
Let’s not mention the insanity of having our kids around us 24/7.
It can be a bit draining, shall we say?
Yeppers.
I have a swimmer, as most of my readers know. My girl swims in club and summer league. The hours spent doing both can’t be counted without a good solid hour, a pencil, some paper, a calendar, and a calculator. I have zero motivation to do this task, so just trust me. It’s A. LOT.
Then there’s baseball. Oh, glory to the baseball field and the relentless hours spent watching my son do his thing. So much fun and so much time. So much bug spray and so much heat.
Both my daughter and my son also enjoy participating in the summer diving league at our local pool as well. It’s all wonderful, and yet, every year I resist this idea because enough is enough. But they beg, plead, bribe and I appease.
These sports have basically been our world since the day after Memorial Day and it’s been awesome, exhausting, stressful, and wonderful.
But there have been times that this crazy schedule of ours left me more on the exhausting and stressful side of things, rather than the awesome and wonderful. When I find myself in that frantic hurried place, full speed in motion and moving and going and doing- I lose sight of it all. I forget that summer is my absolute favorite season and I remember that this is IT. This is my joy!
Sometimes, I realize I am missing the true treasures of it all and I have to stop and shift my perspective. I forget that during the long winter months, I yearn for these sun-drenched days filled with a packed summer sports schedule and the time spent with my kids.
Yes, summer is the sweet spot of life over here in our little corner of the world. I remind myself of this very truth in my newly published piece over on Her View From Home. I’d love you to join me there!

YES, I recall this frenzy all too well, Chris. Your kids sound amazingly athletic and it’s hard to say ‘no’ to yet another request to join a sport, isn’t it? Hope you get a little break to dip your own toes in the cool water.

We DID get a nice break near the end of the season and it was glorious! 🙂
Kids are back in school today… I’m so sad it’s over, but doing a little happy dance in my quiet house with my kitty cat today. lol

I know exactly how you feel. This year Christopher played AAU (travel basketball) for the first time. It only went to July 1st but it dipped into the summer with practices and weekend games. Even though he has a solid month before school starts, the other day he said, “This summer went by too fast.” I said, “Yeah :-(“
